After Botox or Xeomin are placed into the targeted muscles, the weakening effect gradually begins anywhere from 3-7 days and is not complete for two weeks. A touch up or small adjustment may need to be performed two weeks after the initial treatment if there is still undesired motion.
Botox and Xeomin will not erase your lines with a single treatment. They are instead limiting the muscle movement that create the lines. If you keep up with your treatments your lines will soften over time and smooth out. However, not all lines will go away completely.
Dosing is patient specific and will depend on factors such as anatomy, metabolism, and desired goals. Results with Botox and Xeomin usually last anywhere from 3-4 months for most patients.
We recommend that you exercise your treated muscles for the first hour after treatment (practice frowning, raising your eyebrows or squinting). After that do not have a facial, or rub/massage the treated area for 24 hours after your treatment. Failure to follow these instructions may lead to product migration and undesired outcomes.
Do not lie down for at least three hours after treatment. Please avoid strenuous exercise or anything that increases your heart rate for 24 hours. Also, avoid any exposure to a sauna, hot tub or tanning for 24 hours. This will prevent your blood pressure from rising and thus minimize the risk of bruising after treatment.
There is always a small risk of bruising. Any small amount of bruising may last up to one week and will go away on its own. Please be aware that some, though very few patients, experience a mild headache. You may take Tylenol to help with pain relief.
